Location: Port Moresby, NCD
Client: National Airports Corporation
Role: Main Contractor
Completion: October 2018
Scope: In preparation for the APEC 2018 Summit the NAC had issued a tender to undertake the strengthening of the existing aerodrome apron adjacent to the new VIP Terminal. Global were awarded the contract and the primary objective was to re-grade and strengthen the existing 50,000m2 of apron and taxiway pavement so that it would be capable of meeting ICAO standards for operation of Boeing 747 class aircrafts. There was also a requirement for the design and construction of a new Carpark for the VIP Terminal. The apron strengthening design called for a considerable volume of box excavation and unbound pavement. Innovative technology in the form of geogrid soil stabilization was incorporated to minimize the volume of pavement material required and ensure the works were delivered on time. A milestone achievement was the drilling and blasting, crushing, hauling, placing and compacting of some 36,000m3 of specification pavement material within a tight three month programme. Global Constructions we able to resource the project and complete all works to the required standards ahead of the APEC Summit much to the satisfaction of the National Airports Corporation and the APEC 2018 Organizing Committee.

Role: Main Contractor
Completion: September 2018
Scope: In December 2016 Global Constructions were awarded a contract to fully reconstruct Stanley Esplanade, a main thoroughfare in Port Moresby’s busy CBD. The work scope involved demolition of the existing rigid concrete pavement and existing building infrastructure, relocation of existing utilities along the entire length of road, installation of marine class stormwater culverts and structures, construction of granular unbound pavements, asphalt surfacing, kerb and channel, concrete footpath and median, LED street lighting traffic lights, road signage and road linemarking. A significant amount of both underground and overhead service utilities needed to be relocated to accommodate the new dual carriageway road. In spite of the challenges of traffic management along one of the busiest roads in Port Moresby and the effects of tidal cycles, all works were completed in line with the clients requirements ahead of the November 2018 APEC Summit.
